Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Wrestling Club wrestler, Esther Kolawole has emerged the first gold medalist in the 61kg category at the ongoing Governor Nyesom Wike Wresting Challenge Cup in Port Harcourt.
The 16 year old defeated Richard Victory from Bayelsa, Nwachukwu Chekwube of Bi-Chisom Wrestling Club,
Iveren Tsenongo from Benue and Essien Akon Ekanem of Cross Rivers State in a round-robin encounter to emerge winner.
In a chat with NationSport after her victory, the SS 2 student of St. Louis Girls Grammar School, Akure hopes to go ahead and win gold medal for the country at the African Wresling Championship next year .
“I Started wrestling two years ago. This is not my first competition. I wrestled at the National youth Games in Ilorin in September. I have trained for this and also believed in prayers .
My Parents have been supporting me all this while and my Coach, Akuh Purity has been helpful in training me. He has given me a mind to believe in myself that I can do it.
“My seniors in wrestling include Odunayo Adekuoroye, Aminat Adeniyi and George Ebong. They have been my inspiration. They have made me to believe In myself and I want to thank them for that.
“My aim now is to go to the African Championship which will come up here in Nigeria and win a gold medal too,” Kolawole told NationSport.
