WILFRED NDIDI: We have more work to do

Wilfred Ndidi

LEICESTER City’s defensive midfielder got hammered for performing below par in last weekend’s PL game against Arsenal.

Ndidi and his colleagues took massive blame for the 4 –2 bashing in the hands of the rejuvenated Arsenal side.

With Ndidi being the main central midfielder, he was singled out for contributing to the team getting bossed around on our side of the pitch and the foxes not being able to supply their attackers.

Reacting, the Nigeria international, who returned from an injury lay off, recently, conceded that he needed to lift his game.

“I said it before. I feel my fitness level is still not there yet. I feel I need more time to catch on. You may not have to wait for too long because I feel it’s coming through and once it’s there, you will definitely see me playing better.”

He insisted that the team need to step overall.

“We have more work to do. We did not create enough opportunity in that game (against Arsenal). We need to play for each other. If we stick to our tactics and then do everything properly, I think we can begin to pick and move on from there.

He cautioned that there will be more matches. “Arsenal and other clubs have new players. They have been busy in the market and you should expect tough games. Arsenal is a big team. As players, we know every game we want to achieve a certain goal. We have our aims this season also and for every game we know we have to do our best to get something out of it.”

Leicester are not looking their best just yet. At King Power Stadium against Brentford, they let down two goals lead early in the second half, before the Bees’ late comeback ensured it would be honours even between the sides.

For Ndidi, who had carried an injury during pre-season but came through 90 minutes on Sunday, it was a frustrating end to a largely positive performance in front of the home support.

The 25-year-old explained: “It was really disappointing because we were really good in the game, 2-0 up, and then their goals just changed the game entirely. When you’re doing well and then all of a sudden it just doesn’t go the way you wanted, it was a sad one for me.

“It felt like we’d lost the game. We did play well, we stuck to the tactics, and everything was going smoothly until they got the second goal and then it just didn’t go our way. I’ve still been thinking about the game a lot and it’s making me feel bad.”

Brendan Rodgers is looking on to his top marker to make amends as tension gradually creeps up on him.

A section of the media feels his days at Leicester are numbered.
