Text: “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.” – Romans 10:1
All human beings born of women are of determinate life tenors (cf Job 14:1). There is therefore a very great expectation from us as children of God and leaders in the church to do the work of Him who called us when it is daytime because the night time will come when no man will be able to work (John 9:4). Christianity must not be all about titles and positions but the responsibilities of leadership. Beloved, you have a responsibility, as people who have seen the light of Christ, to shine the light for others, you that have experienced the light, you are to win others to the victory of the cross. You have a responsibility to influence others to the path of Christ and you are duty bound to the ministry of discipleship.
Kindly note dear brothers and sisters that Jesus Christ is unhappy whenever He saw people that have abandoned the essence of their call and were serving tables. At a time, Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem and He wept over the city because of their blindness from spiritual realities. He wept in view of the fact that the people majored in spiritual minors and things which belonged to their peace were hid from their eyes. According to Luke 19:41-42, “And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.” Jesus wept! Yes, He wept. Beloved, the Saviour wept! The coming king wept! He wept because the church was enmeshed in the pettiness of the market places which are petty talks about people and dresses, gossips about people, about money making ventures, revelling in minors and forgetting the major of the kingdom, eating, drinking, socialising, business merchandising and business networking.
Beloved, Jesus Christ is still weeping. He is weeping because we are not doing what we were expected to do – we were called to the ministry of winning others to victory. Instead of us, the called out ones to affect the world, the world has affected us and very adversely too. Instead of us to be living examples for the world and be committed to the commission of winning others to victory, we are enmeshed in the pettiness of the things of the world and the world has regrettably entered us. Jesus wept!
Dear brothers and sisters, you have a responsibility to positively contribute your quota to the world and the church because there is a whole lot of people going home. Some of the people that were with us three months ago have gone home. Some are going home now and before this year ends, many are still going home. You may be called home any day, time and at any occasion. He said that He would call home when people were eating and drinking, planning for weddings, when husband and wife were holding hands, when mummy and children were working in the kitchen etc.
There is therefore no time that winning others to victory is much needed than this perilous time, a season when morals have been turned upside down, a time when nudity is celebrated all over the world in the name of fashion, when to wear torn clothes is more hallowed than to dress decently, when children are disobedient to parents, when people go to church because of food, drinks, politics and fashion and not for the word of God, when respect to elders has become a thing of the past, when money is celebrated above integrity and honour – the world is upside down! We are in a season when the craving for power and money have reached an alarming stage hence the pervasive ritual killings, cultism and drug addiction. Jesus is calling us to the ministry of winning others to victory. We are not to fold our arms and feel unconcerned because the Owner of life is going to ask you.
Maybe I should ask you: Since you have known Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, how many people have you won to the victory of Christ amidst the retinue of people you encounter on a daily basis; can you please appraise yourself in your walk with God from January to date – how many people have you discipled or disciplining? In your honest assessment of your work with God, can it be said of you that you are a faithful steward. I appeal that you humble yourselves before the Almighty God at such a time, take your gaze away from the temporality of this world, engage more in selfless services to God and humanity, be more committed to winning others to victory, remain more resolute on love for one another, bear the right fruit of the Spirit, place walking with God above working with Him, be a worthy example of Christ in deed and not talk alone, preach the Word of God to people around you, be committed to soul winning and discipleship, continue to live a life of holiness and maintain peace towards all.
Let me ask you: when your end shall come, how will you be remembered by the church and what testimony will heaven have about you. Please amend your ways during this season of Lent, as tomorrow may be too late. It is my prayer that the Almighty God shall continue to bless you and make you acceptable before Him when your time is up here, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer: Father, help me in this Christian journey to redirect my thoughts and steps towards winning souls to your kingdom in the name of Jesus
