Woman, 90, arraigned for ‘N1.7m fraud’

A 90-year-old woman Esubi Bakare was yesterday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauded a man of N1.7 million, under the pretext of selling a piece of land to him.

Bakare is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretext, breach of peace and threat to life.

She pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Inspector Chinalu Uwadione said the accused committed the offence on May 12, at Oko Agerige, Ado-Ajah.

He said the accused obtained the N1.7 million from Ololade Akinyemi, the complainant, under the pretext of selling a piece of land to him.

Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo granted the accused N500, 000 bail.

The case continues on August 21.
