Woman remanded in prison for insulting mother

Kano Senior Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Hajiya Umma Sani Kurmawa, yesterday remanded Ummi Abdullahi, 20, for allegedly insulting her biological mother.

The charge sheet said Ummi, on March 4, at Badawa quarters, committed criminal intimidation, intentional insult, mischief and attempt to commit an offence.

The Police prosecutor, Ibrahim Abulrazaak Tsanyawa, said the offences contravened sections 397, 327, and 95 of the Penal Code Law.

According to him, the accused committed further offence by attempting to stab her biological brother with a knife, saying the brother earlier prevented her from stealing a goat and a hand-pushed truck belonging to the family.

Ummi proceeded to her mother’s bedroom, knowingly set all the wares in the house on fire, the court heard.

The accused pleaded for leniency, saying she regretted her actions and pledged to desist from such.

The Magistrate, Kurawa, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison and adjourned till May 16.
