Three persons including a woman, were on Wednesday arraigned in an Enugu North Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 474 cartons of beer worth N1. 5million.

The defendants – Chinwendu Nwafor, 39, Udochukwu Eze, 32, and Ikechukwu Ugonna, 45, denied committing the offence.

The prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Ajiogwu, had told the court that the matter was reported at the Ngwo Police Station on June 1, 2017, by the complainant, Mr Gerald Ojukwu.

The prosecutor explained that the first defendant, Udochukwu Eze, gave the 474 cartons of drink to Chinwendu Nwafor, a woman.

According to him, Nwafor thereafter handed over the items to Ikechukwu Ugonna, who knew very well that they were stolen goods.

Ajiogwu said that the offence contravened the provisions of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr D. K. Ekoh, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N300, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
