Nigeria, a nation on the rise, recognises the indispensable role of women in its pursuit of greatness.
Often hailed as amazons, these virtuous women dedicate their lives to serving their beloved country. Throughout African history, women have made a profound impact on the continent’s development.
However, their inclusion in governance has been hindered since the inception of democracy in Nigeria. Over the years, Nigerian women have consistently advocated for greater involvement in government affairs.
Numerous organizations have undertaken advocacy projects to address this issue. Many advocacy networks argue that the outgoing administration did not prioritize women, thus calling for increased representation to meet global standards in the incoming government.
With the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President-Elect of Nigeria, a renewed hope has surged among women that they will be given greater opportunities in the new government.
This hope stems from the notable track record of the incoming President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his esteemed First Lady, Senator Yeye Oluremi Tinubu, both of whom have demonstrated their profound support for women and youth during their previous engagements in public office.
One of the women who firmly believes in this renewed hope is Hon. Kate Omolola Banjoko, a successful businesswoman and politician from Lagos State.
In her article in 2022, she referred to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “Mr. President,” and she now boldly declares that women will be well represented in Tinubu’s government.
During a recent interview, Hon. Kate expressed her confidence, stating that Tinubu is a visionary leader who understands the power of women and has consistently provided platforms for their success.
She recalled how Asiwaju was deeply devoted to his mother as a Governor and held his beloved wife, who was hailed as the best State First Lady in Nigeria during his tenure, in high regard.
Hon. Kate emphasized the positive impact the First Lady’s pet project had on women and youths since 1999. With her impending role as the First Lady of Nigeria, Hon. Kate is certain that remarkable changes await women and youths nationwide, thanks to the support of her exceptional husband.
Regarding women in leadership positions, Hon. Kate remarked, “Nigeria has evolved over the years, and we have reached a stage where the voice of women will resound loudly and clearly. During his tenure as governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed a woman as Deputy, a feat no other governor in Nigeria had accomplished.
He also granted women a higher percentage of representation than any other state. I firmly believe he will replicate these achievements by selecting competent women for top positions in the country.”
Hon. Kate described the Tinubu’s presidency as a great blessing for Nigerians, as both the President-Elect and the First Lady possess extensive experience in public service. Having served as senators and as the Governor and First Lady of Lagos State, they are now poised to lead the nation.
She predicted that Nigerians would witness greatness within a short period.
Discussing the Office of the First Lady, Hon. Kate expressed her certainty that it would be revitalized, leading to widespread empowerment for women and youths across the country.
She regarded the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State as the most dignified among all states in Nigeria, owing to the exceptional leadership of Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Hon. Kate commended the former First Lady’s profound understanding of the office’s power and her successful efforts in promoting women’s development and growth.
Hon. Kate’s excitement was palpable as she anticipated the positive surprises that will positively impact the lives of millions of Nigerian women under the leadership of the First Lady.
Hon. Banjoko is a prominent figure in the Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency and has been very active in politics for more than 12 years.
