The Handball Federation of Nigeria HFN has charged the nation’s World Cup bound women’s team to put up a good performance in today’s semi-final of the Under 18 African Youth Championship in Tunisia.

The Nigerian girls qualified for next year’s World championship after beating Morocco 17-5 yesterday in the African tournament to book a semi-final matchup with their Egyptian counterparts.

Applauding the team on its  World Cup qualification, Ocheho offered the girls some technical tips to achieve greatness in the tournament.

“From the trajectory of how the team and it’s coaches had progressed, from Accra during the West African Zone B championship; and at the IHS Continental challenge in Côte d’Ivoire which they won; it was clear for all to see that this was coming, and am excited to be here in Monastir to witness this historic feat, of our first ever qualification for the world championships.

“Having achieved our first goal which is to qualify for the world championship in China in July/August 2024; I think we can take it further, if we remain focused, committed and disciplined; while avoiding too many turn-overs. Nigeria should be able to beat Egypt as well. But I must say I’m pleased with how far the team has evolved.” Ocheho said.

Egypt alongside Nigeria are also through to the IHF World Championship in China and the semi-final face-off between both countries in Tunisia is scheduled for tonight, at 6.30pm.
