After more than three days of hard work, engineers from the Yobe Ministry of Works have recovered and reconnected the Katarko bridge, which was washed away by flood on Sunday night.
The Nation reports Katarko Bridge bombed in 2014 by Boko Haram was disconnected from the major highway after a heavy downpour on Sunday that lasted for several hours.
It is one of the major bridges that connects the two most Boko Haram affected local governments (Gujba and Gulani) as well as linking the southern part of Borno, Gombe State, Taraba and Adamawa.
Gov. Mai Mala Buni on Tuesday visited Katarko where he sympathised with the people of the area over the flood disaster.
He directed the Ministry of Works to fix the bridge as soon as possible due to its social and economic importance to the people of the state and the neighboring states.
Speaking during the inspection visit of the collapsed bridge in Katarko, Buni said the bridge is too important for the State and neighboring States that calls for urgent interventions.

“Do your best to see that this road is reconnected for use as quickly as possible.
“The Katarko road that links Yobe and Borno states with other neighbouring states is very important for all of us especially, it would help particularly in improving the security situation in the state,” the Governor said.
Commissioner of Works could not respond to calls of text messages to give details of how the ministry was able to reconnect the road
But the Director Civil Engineering in the Ministry of Works, Engr. Usman Ahmed informed the ministry worked day and night following the directives of the governor to ensure that the road was recovered and the bridge reconnected.
According to him, over 50 trippers of stone boulders were used and about 10 trippers of laterite were used to recovered the road.
“We concentrated on one side of the bridge to recover the road so as to restore immediate movement of the people. As you are aware, that road is a very strategic road so we have to work hard based on his Excellency’s directives to make the job done,” Ahmed informed.
