An indigenous language media association has been inaugurated in Lagos.
The group, known as the Guild of Yoruba Media Practitioners (GYMP), is open to the public.
The Chairman, Mr. Samuel Akinrole, said membership is open to active Yoruba language media practitioners all over the country, and those who accept the aims and objectives of the association.
He said: “The association seeks to promote the practice of Yoruba journalism in line with the prevailing standard and technology. The association, as one of its objectives, will expose members to opportunities and developmental programmes in the field of Yoruba journalism.
“In addition, GYMP intends to protect the professional interest of members. While prioritising the welfare of members, the organisation of symposia, workshops and seminars will also be a critical tool through which the indigenous language media group will promote development in our society.”
The Secretary, Olaide Gold, said interested persons could obtain membership forms, adding that individuals interested in becoming financial members would pay an annual subscription fee, which could be confirmed by the secretariat.
