Yoruba leaders have said the greatness of the Southwest would be determined by unity.

They urged the Yoruba to embrace themselves for their dream to come true.

The leaders spoke in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the weekend at the end of a joint session in commemoration of the Yoruba Unity Day with the theme: “Food, Physical and Digital Security of Yorubaland in Time of Dire Crisis”, which was aimed at celebrating 136 years that Kiriji War ended.

Among the groups present were Yoruba Ko’ya, Agbekoya Warriors, Majiyagbe, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), New Era, Federation of Yoruba Consciousness and Culture, Alajobi and Oodua Redemption Alliance (ORA).

ORA President Dr. Victor Taiwo stressed the need for people in the Southwest to unite and defend the unity of Yorubaland “because the region has the resources to cater for the people.

“We have the prospect of becoming one of the biggest countries in the world. We are one of the most blessed nations in the world, yet we are suffering. All the companies under Oodua Group of Companies and the legacies of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the Southwest have become moribund.”

Chief Owolabi Oladejo, the chairman, Impact Business Radio, said it was time for the Yoruba to look into their situation and decide on what next ahead of the 2023 general election.

The convener, Otunba Deji Osibogun, said the meeting provided another opportunity for the Yoruba to look inward and tap into abundant resources in the land to develop the region.

The Yoruba Ko’ya group presented a bus and space bus to some Yoruba groups, while handsets, mobile lines and branded reflective jackets were also distributed to some security groups.
