The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Pharm (Mrs) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, yesterday said that youths are the bedrock for sustaining the national development and growth of the country.
The Commissioner disclosed this at the 2nd stakeholders’ meeting with voluntary youth organizations and non-governmental organizations, with the theme: “Lagos Youth Development, Challenges and Opportunities, at Onikan Youth Centre in the state.
She stated that development of human capital especially among the youth populace through skill acquisition, vocational training and empowerment will definitely reduce unemployment problem in the state.
The Commissioner solicited for the synergy among non-governmental organizations, charity homes, philanthropists, corporate organizations and other stakeholders in providing opportunity for government in promoting youth development in the state.
“It is expected that the involvement of your various organizations in the plight of younger generation, in line with laid down regulations for measuring the operational effectiveness of the youth services provider will provide necessary date and information to address the challenges of youth issues.”
“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has made it known that the state will continue to be a hub of prosperity for young people and that his administration would continue to ensure that young people find their place in governance to enable them assume responsibility status for themselves, their families and the Nation at large”, she noted.
The Commissioner appreciated the relentless effort of the leaders of various voluntary organizations, non-governmental organizations and corporate organizations for their unflinching supports for the ministry.
Also, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said that the state government is seeking for cooperation from well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations in developing youths.
