POLICE have arrested 10 suspected members of a land-grab syndicate who reportedly visited terror on residents of Ewujomo village in the Ogijo area of Ogun State.
The suspects Ismaila Lawal, Tope Oniyide, Sodiq Lawal, Ahmed Olaringbe, Gafar Kafo, Ismaila Haruna, Okanlawon Olabinjo, Kamoru Arulogun, Suleman Oresesun and Kazeem Oresesun, allegedly armed with weapons, stormed the community yesterday and sent the residents scampering for safety.
There was intermittent gunfire for hours, The Nation learnt. The villagers fled their homes.
Respite later came the way of the besieged village when armed policemen arrived after receiving distress calls.
Spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement, adding that that the hoodlums, who came on motorcycles, invaded the village with dangerous weapons.

Abimbola, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), further said that the Divisional Police Officer, Suleman Muhammed, mobilised policemen to the scene, but that on sighting the policemen, the hoodlums opened fire.
Oyeyemi said the police overpowered the hoodlums and arrested 10 of them, while some others fled with gunshot wounds.
He said some arms and ammunition, including three motorcycles, were recovered from the suspects.
Abimbola said the Commissioner of Police Kenneth Ebrimson has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
Ebrimsom warned that anybody with criminal intent would not find a safe haven in the state, saying any criminal who decides to test the will power of the command would meet his Waterloo.
