One hundred young and old persons have graduated from a skill acquisition programme in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State.
The four-week training, second of its kind, was tagged: “ABISCO Skill Acquisition and Economic Empowerment Programme”.
The graduating students were trained in Digital Technology/Information Communication Technology (ICT), Bread Making, Catering Services, Event Planning and Decoration, among others.
Clad in graduating gowns, the trainees were presented with certificates and tools to start their businesses.
Council Chairman Princess Olabisi Adebajo said the tools would help them establish businesses.
“This programme is a life-giving opportunity. With the right skills, people are better prepared and equipped to set up their businesses and in turn, create more jobs for others. We are opening doors to new possibilities,” she added.
Princess Adebajo, aka ABISCO, said in a globalised economy, the ability and capacity to compete depends on building a skilled, competent and confident workforce.
Said she: “This has made it imperative for our administration to be focused on human capital development. As we have promised, we will continue to deliver significant development in all social and economic dimensions. We are dedicated to empowering the youth with creative and innovative skills that will help bring good values to the community and Lagos State.”
The council boss assured the people that her administration would drive employment by helping people to develop the skills they needed to progress into a job, on the job, and onto the next job.
She urged the beneficiaries not to sell the tools.
“Rather, they should use them to improve the economy of the council by putting them into proper use.
“If well managed, you can become wealthy individuals that will employ many people.”
