11 traffic robbery suspects held in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos police command have arrested 11 persons over alleged cultism and traffic robbery.

The suspects, the command said, were apprehended around 2pm on May 1, while attacking and dispossessing innocent people of their belongings at Railway Crossing, Ikeja Along.

A statement on Monday by spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi said their arrest followed the review of security strategies by Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu.

Adejobi said operatives responded to a distress call from one of the victims, raced to the area and apprehended some of the suspects.

He said others were picked up at their hideouts around Ikeja Along, adding that they have confessed to the crime.

“The suspects also revealed that they attack their targets with iron rods, guns, cutlasses and charms during operation.

“In the course of police investigation, the suspects revealed one of their receivers, one Idris Adamu, 42, who was immediately arrested at Alade Market, Lagos.

“A gold necklace of one of the victims and many other suspected stolen items like phones, necklaces, watches were recovered from him.

“Other victims of their robbery operation on the said date have been identified and are assisting the police in their investigation.

“The police operatives are presently interrogating the suspects in order to extract more information on their mode of operation, membership and accomplices so as to apprehend other members of the gang and those who conspire with them.”
