13 Imo lawmakers test positive

No fewer than 13 of the 27 members of the Imo State House of Assembly have tested positive for COVID-19.

It was gathered on Tuesday that the 13 members tested positive on Monday when the test was conducted on them.

In a reaction, the Special Adviser on Media to the Speaker, Emeka Ahaneku, said the figure was outrageous, insisting that only three members tested positive.

Ahaneku said many workers and lawmakers, who faced the test on Monday, turned out negative.

“It is true that there are incidences of COVID-19 in the House, but they are not up to five. The number people are quoting is outrageous.

“A lot of staff and members were tested on Monday and results are yet to be released.  So, I don’t know where they are getting the number they are quoting,” he said.

He, however, said those who tested positive have been moved to the Isolation centre in Owerri.

Secretary to the Taskforce on COVID-19 Dr. Austin Okeji declined to comment on the issue.

He said only the Health Commissioner could speak on the matter.

When the commissioner was called on her telephone line, she did not answer the calls.
