No fewer than 15 million farmers, especially women and youth are to be empowered by the National Agricultural Mechanization Cooperative Society (NAMCS) on farm mechanization as part of its agricultural activities.
The National President of NAMCS, Aliyu Waziri stated this while speaking with journalists after the inauguration of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chapter of NAMCS.
Waziri said the Cooperative Society is also targeting to empower 250 persons from each of the 774 local governments in the country particularly in poultry farming.
This, he said, would assist the government to create jobs and alleviate poverty and in food security.
“It is a special day to inaugurate our FCT Coordinators, local government including zonal coordinators under National Agricultural Mechanization Cooperative Society (NAMCS).
“This is a program we use to assist the government to create jobs and alleviate poverty and in food security.
“We are targeting to empower 15 million farmers on mechanized farming in nigeria. In poultry, we are targeting to empower 250 persons in the 774 local governments in the country.
The FCT Coordinator of NAMCS, Chioma Ofonagolu, said the project is targeted at engaging Nigerians in agriculture and eradicating poverty.
“The vision is a very big one, because when I look at what is happening in Nigeria, the only solution to these problems is farming, the initiative impressed me. As beneficiaries, we will use this privilege to touch the grassroot farmer.
“We are carrying women and youth along, this is something that everybody should embrace, it will eradicate poverty and empower many.
