20,000 get free Medicare in Ondo

Over 20,000 persons have benefited from the nine days free medical and surgical outreach organised by the lawmaker representing Akoko North East and North West Federal Constituency in the House of representatives, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Beneficiaries had access to medical consultation and treatment for different ailments at five centers such as OkeAgbe, Ogbagi, Ajowa, Ise and Ikare Akoko.

They were diagnosed treated and educated on prevention of ailments such as malaria, typhoid and high blood pressure.

Over 1000 glasses christened ‘Igo BTO’ were distributed to individuals with eye defects while free surgery was performed for patients having cataract, hernia, fibroid, lypoma, Breast lump among others at the State specialist hospital in Ikare Akoko.

Hon Tunji-Ojo, in an interview, said the medical outreach was an eye opener on some of the health challenges confronting Akoko people.

He stated that the team restrategise the programme to accommodate accommodate everyone who presented themselves for examination .

Represented by Dr Oluwatosin Dada, Hon Tunji-Ojo assured the beneficiaries of follow up medication and consultation for effective monitoring of recovery progress at no cost.

“The initiative is to bring health to the doorstep of the people and this outreach has been overwhelming and an eye opener for me personally.

“We thought we were going to be targeting 2000 people per center, but we started getting over 5000 and even over 6000 in some centers leading to over 20000 people.”

One of the beneficiaries, Oloro Deborah, said she has been battling fibroid challenge since 2008.

” I am usually in severe pain because of my issue, I have been to doctors but they always say it is an operation that I will have to do which has always made me afraid because I did not have any money as my husband had abandoned me. Today, Tunji-Ojo has changed my story and I am very grateful, may God continue to uplift him”
