Twenty-one wives of governors from across the federation, former Liberia First Lady, Senator Jewel Howard-Taylor and a former Vice President of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Joice Mujuru, are expected to attend this year’s edition of Oyo State Officials’ Wives Association (OYSOWA) annual conference, which begins today in Ibadan, the state capital.
The conference, which will end on Friday, is expected to discuss issues for advancing the course of women.
It will hold at the International Conference Centre (ICC) of the University of Ibadan (UI) at 8 a.m daily.
Its Convener and wife of the governor Mrs. Florence Ajimobi said feminists, gender specialists and top women entrepreneurs would also be joined by other 1,000 women delegates.
She said the theme of this year’s conference is: The Resilient Woman: Making a Difference.
Mrs Ajimobi said she will be joined by wives of the governors of Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Zamfara, Kebbi, Enugu, Abia, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Jigawa, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Sokoto and Kwara.
She said this year’s theme underscores the strategic role of women in nation-building, adding that over 10,000 women had been empowered with life-changing business ideas, knowledge and financial support since the conference started six years ago.
Mrs Ajimobi said: “OYSOWA is a phenomenon that has come to stay. I congratulate the women in Oyo State for this achievement. Our 2017 conference is poised to be a memorable one. We are expecting more than 1,000 delegates from across the country.”
