THE former Lagos State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Hyginus Omeje, has said that about 333,899 traffic offenders were arrested and booked for 376,119 various traffic offences under his supervision from 2014-2019.
He said the command had equally stopped and cautioned a total of 25,454 traffic offenders for various offences, adding that it had between 2015 and 2019, carried out a total of 12, 040 rallies and educated 136, 235 offenders in line with the FRSC directives.
The Sector Commander spoke while handing over the office to his successor, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide. Omeje, who was recently promoted from the rank of Corps Commander to that of Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), said he had contributed his quota towards a safer motoring environment in Lagos.
Omeje is now in charge of federal operations in the Operations Department of the FRSC headquarters in Abuja. ACM Omeje said Ogungbemide had all it would take to actualise the strategic goals of the organisation in the state.
“Today, I am handing over to you the best Sector Command by the FRSC assessment rating, having been declared the overall best sector command in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
“I have no doubt that when the rating for 2019 will be released, we will still retain our number one position,” Omeje said. According to him, some notable special operations of the corps in the state during his tenure included Operation Restore Sanity meant to control driving against traffic and Operation Show Your Driver’s Licence.
Omeje also said his administration carried out Operation Scorpion meant to checkmate the excesses of tanker drivers
