42 suspects of rape, kidnap held in Abuja

THE lust for women’s flesh and for quick cash seems to be leading many across the country into all kinds of trouble.

Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday said it arrested 42 suspects, some for rape, some for kidnapping and other crimes in the territory.

Commissioner of Police Bala Ciroma disclosed this at a news conference in the capital city, Abuja, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

On November 4, the police chief said, one Demi Ejegi, 65, was caught defiling a three-year-old child.

He said the suspect told police during investigation that they were sharing a meal when the urge to defile the child came over him.

He also said that operatives patroling Kuje-Abaji axis on October 31 arrested one Mohammed Maina, 20, a member of a suspected rape syndicate.

The commissioner said that the suspect had confessed to intercepting their unsuspecting victims and forcefully had carnal knowledge of them at night.

Ciroma told reporters that 26 of those arrested were kidnap suspects captured in a joint counter-kidnapping operation involving police, the military and other security agencies.

He said the suspects were part of different kidnap syndicates operating along Kuje, Rubochi, Kwali and Abaji axis of the FCT, adding that four locally fabricated firearms, one dane gun with 10-round cylinder loader, four cartridges and three cutlasses were recovered from the suspects.

The commissioner said three face masks, 24 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Marijuana, several identity cards and charms were also recovered from them.

He said police operatives attached to Gwagwalada Area Command on October 28 also arrested one Juri Abubakar, 30, said to be a member of a kidnap syndicate at Yangoji area of the FCT.

Ciroma said the suspect admitted to supplying food to other members of the syndicate who had threatened to kidnap a victim but was foiled by prompt intervention of the police.

He added that the suspect was arrested before the execution of the act, adding that efforts were being made to arrest five other members of the syndicate.

The commissioner said five suspects, Zaharadeen Abubakar, 23, Hamza Garba, 25, Usman Ibrahim, 25, Jubril Yusuf, 24 and Ismail Omadivi were on November 2 arrested by police operatives attached to Abaji Division.

Omadivi, a student of the University of Abuja and others were arrested for conniving and threatening to kidnap their targeted victim who reported to the police, Ciroma said.

The suspects, he continued,  demanded N500,000 from their target before they were apprehended by the operatives, adding that three cutlasses, one Samsung phone, one smart card and one knife were recovered from them.

He said that efforts were being made to arrest other members of the syndicate who were still at large.

The Commissioner said that operatives attached to Anti-One Chance Unit in the command on October 31 arrested one Ezenwodo Orioha, 65 at his hideout in Karimo Village for aiding one chance robbery.

He said that the suspect told the operative during investigation that he was a native doctor who prepares charms for the syndicates before setting out for operations.

Ciroma said that all the suspects would be arraigned in court on conclusion of investigations.

Zamfara state police command have arrested 24 notorious criminals belonging to different syndicates of Armed robbers, Rapist, serial snatchers of Motor cycles, tricycles, Kidnapping and other heinous crime in different locations and hideout in the state.

The state commissioner of police CP Usman Nagoggo revealed this to newsmen at the force headquarters in Gusau Wednesday.

Nagoggo revealed that, thirty two different brand of motorcycles and seven vehicles. Others are Four plasma TVs, Three Generators, one sewing machine, Two Gas cylinders, Two Ceiling fans, one, one Iron Stone, one Carpet, one Z pad x 7 table, one Nokia handset, one Techno handset and other numerous exhibits reasonable suspected to be stolen.

Another feat achieved by the command is the arrest of a suspect Mohammed Dahiru Alias “Emeka Pastor who belong to the a notorious gang of armed robbery and kidnapping which also led to the  arrest of other members of his gang, Abubakar Ahmed, Sani Garba, Sama’ila Abubakar, Abubakar Ibrahim

Nagoggo explained that exhibits recovered are during these raids are 1mark rout pistol breech No. 2537 with two 2 Round of live ammunitions, two Toyota Corollas, one Honda vehicle and  one Toyota Hilux Vehicle belonging to NDE office of Zamfara State was recovered.
