No fewer than 600 persons have benefited from the free medical outreach of Rev Fr. Martin Unadike, Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Nnewichi, Nnewi in Anambra State.
The medical outreach with a team of ten qualified medical doctors from various fields of medicine led by Dr. Chidi Anyim, a medical consultant, were engaged in the exercise in addition to available free hospital in the industrial community.
Speaking during the exercise yesterday, Unadike said the drugs and manpower invested for the mission were targeted at handling all manner of primary and secondary medical attention.
He also disclosed that he was currently paying for 491 students at primary, secondary and university levels aside the free medical mission.
He said, “Since we don’t know who is coming for treatment, we made drugs available for ailments such as kidney, liver, other internal organs, heart diseases, malaria, diabetes, typhoid, headache and cough problems.
“We are also de-worming for all the children here. We have some supplements for the eyes from some of our major donors and I bet you the supplements are superb. We made provision for between 500 and 600 patients for the edition.”
According to the cleric, surgeries would also be done at various designated hospitals, including Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) at the expense of the medical mission free of charge.
While disclosing that he had singlehandedly funded the programme for the past ten years with support from friends, Unadike announced that another round of the programme would come up in the Easter period or a little bit after that to make sure it holds twice a year.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke at the event, Mrs. Akuewulu Ebele and Mr Amuchechukwu Muodebelu were full of gratitude to the benefactor for the relief from their health challenges.
“God will bless him abundantly and replenish the source from where he is taking care of us,” they said in unison.
