About 600 youth groups across the 57 Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State (LCDAs) on the platform of the Eko Youth Coalition for Good Governance have endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for re-election.
About 110 of the independent youth groups initially supported Labour Party but declared support for Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
Dr Bolarinwa Omotosho, who led the endorsement exercise, said: “It is strongly unacceptable for young leaders to sacrifice the sterling records of the Sanwo-Olu administration on the altar of ‘woke’ politics or push Lagos State into the hands of opposition elements when a leader from Lagos State would be occupying Aso Rock as President”
He added: “The opposition of the federal military government of 1983 to the priority programmes of Lagos State caused the state the painful loss of the Lagos Light Rail project in 1983.
‘’The opposition of the PDP-led federal government under Olusegun Obasanjo to the AD-led state government in Lagos State caused the state the denial of several federal projects and the seizure of its allocations for several years by the Federal Government.
“Providence for the first time in history has elevated a Lagosian as the President. We must not become a clog in the wheel of progress by voting in an opposition government in Lagos State” he added.
Mrs. Motunrayo Adeyemi from Alimosho, said: “This is not about the political party but about a credible and qualified candidate with a proven track record”.
The coalition, in a communiqué signed by 57 LCDA coordinators directed all youths across Lagos State to frustrate the plot to throw Lagos State into the opposition.
The communiqué described Sanwo-Olu “has adequate experience for the job. During the national universities’ strike, all higher institutions of learning in Nigeria were on strike but all higher institutions in Lagos were in session without hindrance.
‘’This is a commendable act of the governor who knows what he is doing. He has established two brand new universities for our teeming youths by upgrading two of our schools to high-performing universities. This has projected him as the face of good governance in Nigeria’s Democracy.’’
The youths added: “We have decided to adopt Sanwo-Olu for a second term and hereby direct all youth groups in this coalition to intensify their house-to-house campaign as well as ensure that they are vigilant at their polling units on Saturday.
‘’We welcome the Obidient groups that have just joined this coalition. You are too important and we are impressed by your depth of understanding of the bigger picture and what is at stake as well as your sacrifice. We assure everyone of equal treatment. Sanwo-Olu will win”.
