No fewer than 6,300 students graduated from the 18 skills acquisition centres in Lagos State last year, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Bolaji Dada, has said.

She said an additional three vocational and skills training centres and certification programmes will be established.

Dada said the Ministry has helped improve the standard of living of not less than 9,000 residents who are beneficiaries of its various training and skill acquisition programmes in the last year.

At a briefing to mark Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s one year in office, Dada said apart from affecting the lives of the beneficiaries directly, the standard of living of thousands of their dependents has also been positively affected.

The programmes cover short and long-term vocational training, including digital marketing.

Over 150 rural women were trained in agricultural enterprises, while 500 women benefited from online marketing training.

Dada said 2,200 vulnerable women were trained and equipped with start-up packs for the various skills acquired.

“In January this year alone, we distributed empowerment materials to over 1,100 vulnerable/indigent women during a Mega Empowerment Program.

“We carried out free medical screening programs for over 500 women in partnership with Non-Governmental Organisations, among several other interventions,” she said.
