The people of Amanuke in Awka North Local Government of Anambra State have protested the kidnap of their monarch, Igwe Dennis Ezebuiro.

The protest, led by 87-year-old Ichie Nweke Nwachukwu, took the demonstrators to the Federal High Court area and Awka streets.

The over 200 protesters said the traditional leader was abducted since two weeks ago in Abuja.

They marched on the area and carried placards with the inscriptions: ‘We need peace in Amanuke’. ‘Kidnappers please release our monarch’. ‘Governor Obiano help us’, among others.

The octogenarian told reporters that the community wanted to see their monarch dead or alive.

Spokesman for the protesters, Moses Afum, said their monarch was elected by his subjects, adding that someone had been parading himself as the traditional ruler of the community.

He said: “Those involved in this dastardly act should please bring our Igwe back to us. We want Governor Willie Obiano to intervene.

“Our people don’t know the person parading himself as the traditional ruler. We are pained over our missing king.”

The Women Leader, Victoria Ofuora, said: “We don’t know whether they have killed our monarch. If they have done so, they should release his body to us.

“They went to Abuja to kidnap our monarch, who we suffered to install.”
