95 held for lockdown violation in Kwara, Kano, Edo

NO fewer than 95 persons were arrested for flouting the lockdown order in Kwara, Kano and Edo states.

Thirty persons were arrested in Kwara, while many vehicles including tricycles and motorcycles were impounded.

Kwara police spokesman Ajayi Okasanmi told The Nation on the phone that the arrests were made on Monday, adding that the suspects had been charged to court.

Police Commissioner Kayode Egbetoku said offenders will henceforth be prosecuted.

In Kano, 15 persons were arrested yesterday for violation the lockdown order, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna said the suspects were arrested for leading Juma’at congregation prayers

.In Edo, 50 persons were arrested yesterday by police for violating the curfew imposed by the Edo state government in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Police spokesman in the state DSP Chidi Nwabuzor disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Tuesday on the command’s achievement in the enforcement of the government order.

The Edo Government had on Sunday imposed a statewide dusk-to-dawn curfew, which commenced on Monday and was to last from 7 pm to 6 am daily.

This was part of the state government’s strategy to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus in the state.
