Furniture maker found with gun

The police in Lagos yesterday charged a man, Toheeb Olapade, at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, with unlawful possession of firearm and being a member of a cult.

Olapade, 26, a furniture maker, who lives on Victoria Island, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearm and membership of a cult.

Prosecuting Inspector Donjour Perezi said the defendant and others at large committed the offences on April 27, at 3:30pm, at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant, when caught by the police, had in his possession an unlicensed locally-made pistol and three cartridges.

Perezi also alleged that the defendant belonged to a secret cult called `Eiye’ Confraternity.

Magistrate Bukola Mogaji granted the defendant N100,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

The case continues on May 31.
