Paseda said the need to raise the consciousness and knowledge of the workers about their safety and that of the working environment motivated the yearly health and safety week.

He added that apart from the yearly week-long health and safety week, the company organises regular talks, seminars and discussions on safety for the workers to raise their consciousness to certain self-induced accidents at work with a view to curbing same.

According to him, the weekly programme will feature health talks by a medical practitioner, Dr. Olufemi Akinola; occupational health specialists to talk to the workers in the areas of safety and materials used in the course of doing their job which involves chemicals; free medical checks for workers as well as fire-fighting drills by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service.

He said: “The company spends millions of naira yearly to educate and equip workers with health and safe needs, as well as to procure safety kits, such as work wears, safety boots, helmets, nose masks/guard and hand gloves. Some are given to workers weekly. Through the week and distribution of the safety kits, we have been able to reduce accident by more than 70 per cent.”
