The Uzo-Uwani Professionals Association (UZPA) of Uzo-uwani Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State has called on the government to reactivate the Adada campus of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
According to them, the Adada campus was shut 15 years ago because the then government of Chimaroke Nnamani wanted to centralise the university structure in Nkanu council.
The President, Jonathan Eze, said it became imperative to call the government’s attention to the suitability of the Adada campus following comments that the state was undecided over the location of the school’s Enugu North campus.
Eze added that the Adada campus which has been left to fall apart already has good structures which include nine hostels and staff quarters, which will be better for citing an institution like ESUT rather than constructing new structures in another community.
He also said that reactivating the campus will develop the community that has suffered neglect for a long time.
His words, “It is on record that the original campus of the university in Enugu North is in Adada, and so it is naturally expected that the faculties of social sciences and Agriculture should suitably return to Adada from where it was forcibly relocated to Agbani. In the light of current development, the location of particularly the faculty of Agriculture will benefit from the following facilities which no other local government in the zone possesses.
“The Forest Reserve of the defunct East Central State in Adada, the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) of old Eastern Region, the Adada River/Dam, the Cattle Ranch and the proximity of the Adarice World Bank project in Adani.
