Ubosi re-elected in Enugu

Former Enugu State House of Assembly Speaker Edward Uchenna Ubosi was yesterday re-elected to pilot the affairs of the seventh Assembly.

Ubosi is the member representing Enugu East Urban Constituency.

The lawmaker is serving his third term in the Assembly; he was first elected to the Assembly in 2011.

First-timer Uche Ugwu (Udi North Constituency) was elected Deputy Speaker to replace Dons Uzogbado (Oji River Constituency).

The former Leader of the Assembly, Melitus Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, representing Udenu Constituency, was also re-elected.

The member representing Enugu South Rural, Mary Onyinye, also retained her position as Deputy Leader.

A new member representing Awgu North Constituency, Jane Eneh, was elected Chief Whip, while a former Deputy Chief Whip, Ethel Oyibo Ugwuanyi, retained her position.

Leader of the House, Ezeugwu nominated Ubosi to be re-elected while the member representing Nkanu West seconded the nomination.

Ezeugwu said he had known Ubosi for the past eight years as a good leader who deserved to be re-elected.

Ubosi said: “Today, we gather here to thank God. I don’t have a written speech. We are here just to thank God.”

The inauguration was witnessed by traditional rulers, former commissioners, former Assembly members and special advisers.
