The Katsina State House of Assembly yesterday re-elected Tasiu Musa Maigari (APC, Zango) as Speaker of its seventh Assembly.
Also, Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki (APC, Faskari) was elected Deputy Speaker.
Tafoki had occupied the position during the sixth Assembly.
Their election was announced by the Clark, Musa Umar Bakori, who presided over the sitting where 34 lawmakers elected the new principal officers.
Bakori said Maigari got 18 votes to defeat his rival, Nasiru Yahaya (APC, Daura), who garnered 16 votes.

He said Tafoki scored 20 votes to defeat his opponent, Abdulrazak Ismaila Tsiga (APC, Bakori), who got 14 votes.
The new principal officers took the Oaths of Office and Allegiance.
Maigari assured the people that he would ensure good governance and create a cordial relationship between the Legislative and Executive.
The speaker was nominated by Sabi’u Aliyu Muduru (APC, Mani) and seconded by Ibrahim Dikko (Matazu Constituency).
He hailed Governor Aminu Bello-Masari and the people of the state for their support and cooperation.
Maigari promised to carry everybody along for the success of the Assembly.
He said: “I will work hard to ensure the success of this arm of government and for the development of our state. I wish to assure that I will carry everybody along.”
Governor Bello-Masari, on Sunday evening, proclaimed the seventh Assembly, in line with Section 105(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended.
