The Golden Lions Club of Ikeja District 404B2 Nigeria has donated some food items to the Bethesda Home for the Blind at Idi-Oro, in Ojuelegba area of Lagos.
The items donated were six cartons of noodles, a bag of rice, palm oil; detergent, a carton of biscuit, wheat flour and beans.
Speaking during the donation to the Home at Idi-Oro in Ojuelegba area of Lagos State, the President of the club Mrs. Ayodele Akinwunmi said the gesture was in line with the focus of the club that relishes in meeting the needs of the poorest of the poor.
According to her, the donation was part of the club’s commitment to touch the lives of others and to show sincere love to the needy.
“From the beginning of my tenure, I thought it wise to begin with the visually impaired and to contribute to their needs because we are here to meet the needs of the needy.
“I will pilot the affairs of the club for one year. During the period, I am expected to show more commitment towards helping the poor. As a club, we have been doing this for years and we will continue,” she said.
She urged the inmates not to regard the challenge of being visually impaired as the end of life, adding that it should not be a barrier to what God has destined them to achieve.
The Chairperson of the programme, Mrs. Mercy Aje-Omosun said the club was borne out of the need to serve humankind and give them hope.
“We are here to serve humanity because we know that government cannot do it all,” she said.
She urged the inmates to see ability in their disability, saying being visually impaired does not mean they are useless.
The founder of the Bethesda Home for the Blind, Mrs. Chioma Ohakwe expressed her appreciation to the club for the gesture.
“We are very happy with what Lions Club did for us. We appreciate them for remembering us, and they should not stop this good work they have started,” she said.
She revealed that the home has been in existence for 14 years, adding; “God has been helping and sustaining us because everything we do for the students here are free,” she said.
