The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) says it has procured 40 trucks to enhance waste clearance in Lagos State.
Secretary-General Private Sector Participation (PSP) Mr. Taiye Kolade, in an interview on Tuesday with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, spoke about waste collection, disposal and recycle business and noted that with five billion metric tonnes waste generated annually, waste management should be prioritised by the government and the people.
“The new trucks will aid prompt refuse removal from residential areas to dump sites. The issue of leaving an area unattended to will no longer arise.
“This is because non-removal of refuse is one the causes of friction between the PSPs and residents.

“The creation of new dump sites in some locations in the state is similar to better service delivery, which is a response to the yearnings for facilities improvement.
“With the 40 new trucks that have been strategically distributed to operators and dump sites, the task of waste collection and evacuation will now be promptly executed,’’ he said.
Kolade appealed to people to ensure prompt payment of bills for operators to concentrate on waste collection and management.
He said it is commendable that unemployed youths are involved in waste management and recycling, adding that the utility trucks will add zeal to the business.
The PSP secretary-general said that the reuse format created by the state was the best way to waste reduction and management, because it had lots of innovation to attract more youths.
