Buni, deputy establish orphanage

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, and his deputy Idi Barde Gubana, have opened a joint orphanage.

The foundation, which is headquartered at Damagum, Fune Local Government Area, Gubana’s village, has already enrolled 305 orphans into western and Islamic schools.

It is also expected to mop-up children orphaned by the Boko Haram crisis over the years.

At the opening of the foundation, Gubana said: “The foundation will help the orphans to grow up to be responsible, responsive and healthy adults that will give back to the community.

“The foundation has identified 305 orphans and enrolled them into western and Islamic schools with their uniforms and learning materials. It is the duty of every individual or households to support in raising orphans in their immediate community. Assisting orphans will bring peace and boost our economic activities.”

Commissioner for Women Affairs Hauwa Bah Abubakar regretted the growing number of orphans as a result of armed conflicts. She described supporting orphans as challenging, especially with the growing number.

Hajiya Abubakar, however, stressed that ‘this kind of gesture is laudable and timely, only God can reward the founder, sponsors and advisers of this giant humanitarian project’.

Emir of Fune Alhaji Mai Saleh Idrissa Ibn Usman described Gubana as ‘the Father of orphans’.

He said ‘the project is just expanded as he has been into it in the last 15 years’. The monarch prayed God to reward Gubana with Al jannah Firdausi.
