Betting agent remanded for ‘defilement’ in Lagos

AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that 56-year-old betting agent, Chuks Ukah, who allegedly defiled an 11-year-old girl, be remanded in a correctional centre pending legal advice.

Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka ordered that he be remanded pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Nwaka ordered  the police to return the case file to the DPP, and adjourned the case until March 30.

Police in Adamawa State  confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man, Jude Jatau, for allegedly raping an Eight-year-old girl. The command’s spokesman, DSP Suleiman Yahaya confirmed the arrest to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Yola, the state capital.

Yahaya said the suspect who allegedly committed the act on Monday, March 2, was arrested on Tuesday in Kofare Ward, Yola, where he lured the girl before having carnal knowledge of her.

“Investigation has been concluded, and he will be charged to court,” Yahaha said.

He urged parents and guardians to always keep close watch on the movements of their wards to guard against them falling prey to sex predators.

In his reaction, the suspect said that the girl had been coming to the house to pluck fruits and that he took advantage of her three times.
