Not less than 2,000 households in the Badagry Local Government have benefitted from the food stimulus packages distributed by the local government to cushion the effects of the lockdown to curtail the spread of the coronavirus in Lagos State.
The chairman of the Badagry local government, Hon Olusegun Onilude, made this known during the distribution of the food stimulus packages which took place at the council area during the week.
He said the food relief package per household in the 10 wards of the local government area consists of five kilogrammes of rice, beans, gari, tomato pastes, one packet of maggi cubes and groundnut oil.
Onilude noted that the beneficiaries of the food stimulus packages included the vulnerable in the council area such as widows, the aged, the disabled and other indigent people in the local government area.
The council boss pointed out that to ensure that the food stimulus packages got to the targeted beneficiaries, a committee was set up to get in touch with the leaderships of the various communities in all wards to identify these targeted people before the food stimulus packages were shared.
“We got the lists of the beneficiaries and based on the number generated , 100 packs were sent to each ward which had its own distribution committee . We knew there would be issues in the distribution exercise, hence we were prepared,” Onilude said.
He advised the people of the local government area to adhere strictly to the directives of the federal and state governments concerning coronavirus by staying at home and observing social distancing and basic hygiene as the virus was no respecter of anybody.
Speaking in the same vein, the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Alhaja Risikat Padonu Hassan, implored the people of the local government area to report visitors or migrants coming to the local government area from the neighbouring countries to the COVID 19 Task Force set up by the local government for immediate quarantine to avoid the spread of the virus.
