Senator donates cash, sanitisers, food items

Senator Soji Akanbi has gone out in support of the health sector in handling issues related to the COVID-19 that is ravaging the world.

This philanthropic gesture was just one of his usual donations over the years to the University College Hospital, Ibadan,Oyo State.

According to him, “we are not doing this just because of coronavirus, but as a foundation we set up years ago and in my personal capacity, we try to meet various public needs from time to time.”

So with that in mind, on March 23, in the early hours of the morning, the senator led a team from the Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi Foundation (RAAF) to the UCH.

The RAAF founder and sole financier, Senator  Akanbi and his team were received by the management team of the UCH led by the Chief Medical Director of hospital, Professor Jesse Otegbayo and his team which included Mrs. Juliana Matthew, Director of Finance of UCH.

The foundation made cash donations to the teaching hospital as part of its regular support to the institution along with some relief materials.

Senator Akanbi also made available large quantities of hand sanitizers and food items  to be distrusted to different markets in Oyo State and various organizations to cushion the effects of the lockdown. Distribution is in batches and still ongoing.

The RAAF is a non-profit organization aimed at empowering the youths and widows and alleviating the sufferings of the downtrodden.  The foundation after operating silently since 2005, went public in 2012. To date, not less than 10,000 youths have enjoyed scholarships from secondary to tertiary institutions and trained in various skills.
