A plea from Ipokia LG, Ogun State

Ogun borders

From the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun state, came a heart wrenching mail from one of my regular readers this past week. It was brimming with tales of bribery and corrupt activities of government agents in the border area, captured so graphically they  cannot be repeated on this column; but of particular emphasis, are the alleged  illicit activities of both the police and customs personnel.

An edited, and shortened form of the complaint, seeking the kind attention of both the President, and the Ogun state governor, reads as follows:

Sir,

Please kindly  help us plead with both  the President and the Ogun state governor  to come to our help in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun state. Or Is living in the country’s  border area  a crime!?

The problem the police and customs men are giving  us in the course of our legitimate business is agonising and heart  breaking. Such injustice against simple, poor,  innocent  men and women, whose only sin is struggling to survive, is most unkind. We shall be most obliged Sir. – Romanus Ndehigwo,  Idiroko Border,  Ogun State.
