Landlords and residents of Abule-Parapo Community of Awoyaya in Ibeju-Lekki local Government Area, Lagos State have urged the Lagos state government to respect the Lagos State High Court ruling in a land dispute case between them and Lagos State Government, which was determined in 2013.
The call was made during a peaceful demonstration and presentation of a petition by members of the 55 affected families at the Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja on Monday.
According to a petition titled: Unlawful employment of Lagos State Government Officials to subvert a valid and subsisting judgment of the High Court of Lagos State, issued by J. Olaide Safiu of J.D. Oloyede Law Chambers, Lagos which was signed by 12 representatives of the affected villages, the communities said government should desist from cooperating with the land grabber Ilemia Gbenga Olumide to intimidate and harass landowners and residents in our communities.
“We therefore restate our clients’ intention to stand their ground and resist any forceful attempt by anyone particularly Ilemia Real Property and Investment Company Limited to hide behind government officials acting as commission agents to disobey court orders. We believe most humbly your Excellency will err on the side of the law on this issue.
“We respectfully hope you will urgently intervene to prevent avoidable shedding of innocent blood over a matter that has been settled by the court of this land in favour of our clients in suit No LD /1911/04,” the petition added.
The demonstrators alleged that almost every week, notices purportedly emanating from Lagos State Government officials are dropped on different parts of the land. This, according to them, has been on for over two years.
However, representative of Lagos State government who received the petition promised to look into the matter with a view for amicable resolution. It also promised to revert to the community leaders whose names and phones were collected.
