FIDA asks NJC to decline tenure extension for Gombe CJ

 Sola Shittu, Gombe

THE lingering crisis rocking the appointment of a substantive chief judge for Gombe State took a new dimension on Thursday, when the International Federation of Women lawyers (FIDA) asked the National Judicial Council (NJC) to decline further extension of the tenure of the state Acting Chief Judge, Justice M. A. Pindiga.

FIDA, in a statement signed by its Chairperson, Elizabeth Jalo-Okotie and Secretary, Mwalin Naomi Abdu, faulted the renewal of the acting status of Justice Pindiga for the fourth time by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, saying it confirmed their fears of injustice against female justices in Gombe State.

The federation frowned at the non- inclusion of Justice Beatrice Iliya, the most senior judge in the state, on the list of nominees for the position of the state Chief Judge to the National Judicial Council in Abuja.
