Ekiti transmits bill to create 19 LCDAs to Assembly for approval

Ekiti State Government yesterday transmitted a bill for the establishment of 19 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to the House of Assembly for consideration and possible ratification.

Justice Commissioner and Attorney General Olawale Fapohunda said in a statement in Ado-Ekiti that the bill was a response to the agitations of communities in the state.

The LCDAs are Ado Central; Ado North; Ado West; Ajoni; Ero; Araromi; Ekameta; Ekiti South East; Ikole West; Ifedara, Ifeloju, Ifesowopo, Isokan; Gbonyin, Igbara-Odo/Ogotun, Ikere West; Irede; Irewolede and Okemesi/Ido-Ile.

Fapohunda said the draft bill seeks to create 19 councils in addition to the existing 16 local governments, as specified in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

He said the proposed local governments are inchoate and shall operate for the time being as LCDAs until such a time the National Assembly pass an Act of parliament recognising them.
