In order to make the learning environment more habitable and conducive for boarding secondary schools students across the state, the Sokoto State Government has approved N437 million naira for the procurement of 2,500 double bunker beds and 5000 mattresses for their use.
The disclosure was made at a briefing by the State Commissioner of Science and Technology, Hajiya Kulu Haruna
According to Haruna, upon procurement, the items would be distributed across schools and the Government Girls Science Academy, Kasarawa, currently under construction.
She explained that the hallmark was to ensure better and more conducive learning environment for the students.
Similarly, the Commissioner of Justice, Suleiman Usman, during the briefing, also confirmed that the bill for law regarding the operation and functions of the established Shehu Shagari University of Education in the state has been considered and approved accordingly by the state executive council.

He explained that the bill was among the major requirements for the establishment of a university by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).
However, an advisory committee instituted following the announcement by the state government to upgrade the college to a university, had since submitted its interim report to the government on the course.
While giving update on state COVID-19 pandemic, the Commissioner of Health, Muhammadu Ali Inname said so far 20,777 people had been tested and 792 cases discovered since the outbreak of the disease in the state.
Inname, who is also the State Chairman of COVID-19 team, confirmed that only three patients of the disease have so far left, adding that ” they are corps members under the mandatory National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state.”
In the same vein, Inname explained that the outbreak of gastro-enteritis in the state has left 11 out of the 22 LGs with reported incidents with cases which were being attended to.
