Lawmakers to security agencies: find missing journalist

A Federal lawmakers yesterday deliberated over the fate of Vanguard reporter Tordue Salem who has been missing since October 13.

Senators and House of Representatives members, who met separately, urged security agencies to find Salem who covered the House before his disappearance.

The Senate, in a point of order moved by Senator Emmanuel Orker-Jev (Benue North-West), urged Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba to, “as a matter of urgency”, direct a special investigation into the disappearance of the journalist.

Efforts by his family, friend and colleagues to communicate with Salem have failed as his phone has been unreachable.

Minority Leader of the House, Ndudi Elumelu, in a motion, mentioned the journalist’s disappearance.

The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, directed the Chairman of the Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson, to coordinate all security-related committees in the House on the matter.
