Ghana fancies good outing at Nigeria’s WT20i

Ghana women’s  cricket  team is yet to be placed on the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings but the team is hopeful that a victory in any of its matches at the Nigeria Women’s T20 Invitational could see her ranked by the world cricket governing body.

Coach Obed Harvey said preparation for the tournament which begins on Monday  was in top gear, adding that the team are looking forward to exciting times in Lagos.

Meanwhile, Ghana Cricket Association earlier announced a 16-player squad for the Nigeria Invitational, with the players picked from the four teams that featured at the just concluded Ashanti Region Senior Women T20 Cricket League.

Harvey, however added that the league was to prepare the team ahead of the tournament.

He said: “We recently ended a regional club cricket league, which was really eventful and rewarding, and is along the map of growing cricket in female departments.

“Lots of the girls got equal opportunities to showcase their skills and to get call up to the national camp in preparation for the Nigeria Invitational.

“The Ashanti League was a form of preparation for us and helped the players be in a competitive mood ahead of the Lagos clash.

“For us, every bit of victory would go a long way to be ranked at the ICC, so we are in Lagos to compete and won’t write off any team.’’

The team’s first game is against 31st  ICC-ranked Rwandan team on Monday,  March 28.

A total of five nations will compete at the maiden edition of the event at the renovated Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) cricket oval, Lagos between March 26 and  April 4.
