NJC okays female chief judge for Imo

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of Justice Theresa Eberechukwu Chukwuemeka-Chikeka as the Chief Judge of Imo State.

She is among the 46 judges and heads of courts, whose appointments the NJC recommended at its 98th meeting, which ended on May 11.

NJC spokesman, Soji Oye, said all recommended candidates were expected to be sworn-in after approval of the Council’s recommendations to their governors and the respective State Houses of Assembly, as the case may be.

For the Sharia Court of Appeal, Nasarawa State, the NJC recommended Kadi Bahago Yusuf Abubakar Agwai II for appointment as the Grand Kadi, and Justice Okorie Victor Uchenna as the President, Customary Court of Appeal, Imo State.

For the High Court of Kogi State, it recommended the appointment of Clement Ohiani Kekere, Hawa Eleolo Yusufu and Isa Jamil Abdullahi as judges, while  Felicia Mnguashima Ikyegh, Omale Gabriel Anebi and  Shishi John Mkoholga were recommended as judges of the High Court of Benue State.

For the High Court of Imo State, the NJC recommended the appointment of Okereke Chinyere Ngozi, Onyekachi Michael Bless Chibueze, Antoinette Chinenye Onyeukwu, Innocent Chidi Ibeawuchi, Alinnor Lotanna Chukwunyere Leo and Nwachukwu Obinna Emmanuel as judges.

It recommended Auwal Ya’u and Mustapha Bello Adamu for appoinment as judges of the High Court of Jigawa State; Diai Christopher Dumebi, Odebale Ekuogbe Baro and Gesikeme-Akebofah Angonumere Mary as judges of the High Court of Delta State; Ladi Agyer Madaki, Longden Danladi Jacob, Elizabeth Ibrahim Angai and Samchi Dasplang Simon as judges of the High Court of Plateau State.

For the High Court of Kebbi State, the NJC recommended the appointment of Hassan Shehu Kuwwa, Shamsudeen Jaafar and Maryam Abubakar Kaoje as judges; Ishaku Yakubu Haliru, Felix Daniel Nzarga, Abbas Adamu Hoban and Maxwell Tartius Pukuma as judges of Adamawa State High Court; and Yahaya Mohammed Kanam as Kadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Plateau State.

For the Sharia Court of Appeal, Kebbi State, it recommended the appointment of Nasiru Umar Zagga; Magaji Chiroma and Ibrahim Barkindo as Kadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal, Adamawa State.

The NJC also recommended the appointment of Yunusa Idris Kutigi, Muhammad Boyi Marafa and  Ubom Unwana Sam as judges of the Customary Court of Appeal, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja; Akumagba Ete Francis as judge of the Customary Court of Appeal, Delta State, and Momsisuri Bemare Odo and Evaristus Paul as judges of the Customary Court of Appeal, Adamawa State.

For the Customary Court of Appeal, Kogi State, the NJC the appointment of Comfort Ekwuojo Toluwase, Paul Ade Olupeka and Shaibu Yakubu as judges; Okafor Emeka Paulinus and Onuegbu Chinemerem Ucheoma as judges of the Customary Court of Appeal, Imo State.
