An armed man apprehended at Obasanjo Farms, Ota, Ogun State, has been taken into police custody.
Sodiq Oladele, 27, was arrested at Obasanjo Farms Junction, Ota on Sunday, as Onipanu Divisional Police Officer Bamidele Job and his men patrolled the area, police spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi said yesterday.
Oyeyemi said the patrolmen flagged down a motorcycle conveying three male passengers.
But rather than meet the policemen, all three men jumped down and fled in different directions.
The patrolmen gave chase and apprehended Oladele as the other escaped.
On searching him, the DPO and his men found a black bag containing two locally-made single-barrel pistols, a live cartridge and charms, Oyeyemi said.
Upon interrogation, Oladele reportedly confessed that he and the two others on the run were on their way to a robbery operation when they ran into the police patrol team.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspect will be transferred to State Criminal Investigation investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation as directed by Commissioner of Police Lanre Bankole.
