Residents of Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State have decried the unnecessary delays encountered while trying register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
They lamented their inability to register in the past weeks despite going to the local government venue early enough.
Our reporter, who visited the centre about 11am yesterday, noted a bickering between the officials and those seeking to register.
The altercation allegedly followed the officials shutting people out and disregarding the first-come-first-serve queue. The officials were accused of calling in those they felt like registering and leaving behind some who had been on the queue since 4am.
One Mr. Paul said he got to the centre around 4.30am and joined the queue because he met some others there. He however lamented that he was yet to be called in as the queue was practically on standstill.
He said: “What is the purpose of the line if they are not following it? I think the INEC chairman should bring more equipment and personnel because these things are lacking. How can three people register all of us? The queue is not moving at all.”
Another resident, Mrs. Ayo, accused the officials of favourtism.
“Why should I come before some persons and they were attended to? Those of us who registered online have made it easier for them. I think this problem is not only in this local government, but all others. There are some persons here from different local government areas,” she lamented.
When our reporter approached an official to understand what the issues were, he said they were only taking 60 persons per day.
The official, who pleaded anonymity, said they were doing everything possible to attend to more people, and asked for more patience.
