Terrorists kill three vigilantes, injure several in Niger community

The Commander of the Vigilantes in Kpada Community in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, Danladi Dobbo and two other vigilante members have been killed by terrorists during an attack on the community.

The incident, which occurred Friday afternoon, had several others injured while a tractor being used for farm activities was burnt by the terrorists.

It was learnt that the vigilantes had embarked on a rescue mission and were ambushed by the terrorists.

While the three vigilante members have been confirmed dead, there are indications that others have been killed in the bush but their bodies are yet to be evacuated.

A source in Lapai said the government needs to act fast to evacuate the bodies of the vigilante members from the bush while also calling on the government to secure the Kpada forest so that it does not become another habitat for the terrorists.

The Source said the incident poses a very dangerous threat to the peace and security of Lapai and Niger State as a whole

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRP) DSP Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached at the time of filing this report.

The Niger State Commissioner for Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar, confirmed the attack but urged the community not to go after the bandits in the forest, adding that security personnel have been drafted to the forest to help recover the bodies of those killed in the attack.

He said security personnel are on the trail of the terrorists, adding that some of them have been apprehended by the Joint Security Force while some kidnapped victims have been rescued unhurt.
