The Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has congratulated Umar El-Yakub on his appointment as Minister of State for Works and Housing and member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ganduje, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, hailed the president for finding El-Yakub worthy of the appointment.
El-Yakub, who was a member of the House of Representatives in 1988 and from 2003 to 2007, representing Kano Municipal, was, until his appointment, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on National Assembly Matters.

The governor praised El-Yakub for his sterling qualities, describing him as “a stalwart of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and worthy son of Kano.”
“The appointment of the lawmaker, most recently as a presidential aide and long-standing member of the progressive family equipped with the political experience and the knowledge, is a good omen for the development of the state and the progress of the APC in Kano State,” Ganduje said.
The governor expressed confidence in the ability of the minister, saying “he will further consolidate on his pedigree which earned him recognition, respect and honour at the state and the country.”
Ganduje also enjoyed El-Yakub seeing the new task as a challenge to make more remarkable impacts by deploying his vast experience, network and depth of knowledge to help in repositioning the sector in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda for housing and infrastructure development in the country.
“El-Yakubu’s position as an experienced legislator has played a leading role in ensuring a harmonious working relationship between the executive and the legislative arms of the government,” Ganduje said.
