SIR: Nigeria is in terrible times with hunger in the air as food prices have skyrocketed!
Insecurity is at the highest level! Part of north has become a no go area because of bandits! The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is on strike! President Buhari has said the best parents can bequeath to their children is education but how cheap is it easier for parents?
How is the standard improving that our leaders now send their children abroad for further studies? How are government and our leaders treating our teachers and lecturers to get the best products out of our school system? Why has our technical education system not been able to address unemployment now that insecurity reigns supreme?
Now, terrorists are still threatening to kill the abducted victims from the train attack while asking to be paid ransom in billions! A governor asked the people of his state to acquire guns to defend themselves but silent on the use to which his security votes are put!
Corruption still festers with N180b allegedly swallowed by the accountant general of federation! Continuous disobedience of court orders by government when it does not favours them!
Poverty! Rising youth unemployment as some youths take solace in yahoo yahoo and money rituals dwarfing moral value system! Jumbo pay to political class as the poor continued to be denied social security!
To get unemployment benefits you must become a militant, bandit, or terrorist first, wielding your AK-47, machine guns with bombs; later you can demand for amnesty! Farmers now pay taxes to bandits to access their farms to the tune of millions! Catholic priests are no longer safe as countless of them have been killed and kidnapped for ransom! Southeast losing out in economic development due to Monday’s sit-at-home! Nnamdi Kano is still detained amidst continuing demand for Biafra! More beautiful young ladies and teenagers engaging in prostitution with the advent of social media!
Manufacturing Association of Nigeria threatening to close down their industries if the issue of exorbitant price of diesel is not addressed! Fuel marketers want upward review in petrol prices! Queue returns! Federal government confused over fuel subsidy removal! Meanwhile, the promise of fixing our moribund refineries still remains a mirage! And redeeming Nigeria too, continues to remain a serious mirage with restructuring foregone!
How worse can things get?
Let us pray that Sri Lanka doesn’t happen to us!
